Winter Season 2025 - runs

from January 3rd to February 28th, 2025.

The 2025 Official Pickleball League has been officially sanctioned by VAIR, ensuring unparalleled legitimacy and credibility. Register your team for the league to showcase your team's skills and join in OPL games in your local area.

Why Become a Part of OPL: For passionate pickleball enthusiasts, traditional leagues often present a variety of challenges. Many of these leagues impose restrictions to certain indoor facilities, which confines court access to predetermined days. This setup often results in steep membership fees, averaging approximately $300 per individual, along with additional court charges. Moreover, the exclusivity of these memberships limits competition to a small group of players, potentially hindering the overall experience and growth prospects for those involved.

OPL offers a different approach: You are encouraged to join with a specific team in mind, but if you don’t have one, you may match with other players as a Free Agent, which is a fantastic way to forge new friendships and enjoy the game. Teams must consist of at least four players, and each team can have up to six players.

The OPL operates independently of any indoor club, eliminating costly membership fees and exclusivity. Skill levels are strictly enforced through VAIR to keep the game play level. Teams are encouraged to play weekly league matches. Team captains coordinate games based on availability and select neutral courts to minimize travel. Teams may recruit substitutes at any point during the season; those players must pay to play.

Every team is required to finish all seven games by the conclusion of the seven-week season. The four teams with the best winning records will then advance to the playoffs, vying for the titles of first-place Champion, second-place Runner-up, and third-place finisher.

How Official Pickleball League Play Elevates Your Game: This is for those looking to elevate their game and be their best version on the court. Participating in structured league play transforms the gameplay experience from casual open play into a thrilling challenge. With scheduled matches, designated opponents, and the VAIR ranking system, league play promotes teamwork and commitment as teams strive for success throughout the season. This format ensures fair matchups based on skill levels, encouraging player development, social engagement, and competitive fun.

If you want to join the OPL event but can't form a team, please complete the Enter Player Draft form. An OPL ambassador will do their best to place you on a team.

OPL™ introduces: a thrilling team competition for pickleball enthusiasts that unites both men and women on an equal playing field. The league is composed of 4-player teams, comprising 2 men and 2 women, who will engage in one match per week, totaling 12 games or more, with a possible 3-3 tiebreaker game. In this format, team matches consist of twelve 1-point games, with one women’s doubles, one men’s doubles, and the final four games featuring mixed doubles, all won by one point. This ensures that each player participates in at least 6 games per game day. The league spans eight weeks, culminating in a championship weekend on week 8. Max 8 teams per league. With innovative twists on traditional match-ups and scoring for games, matches, and tiebreakers, the league delivers an exciting experience for both players and spectators. Teams will face off in Matches using the OPL format.

The teams will change ends of the pickleball court when a team reaches 6 points.

The first team to 11 points wins (win by 1 point).

If both teams are tied at 3-3 after the 6 games played, they’ll go to a Tiebreaker! In this Tiebreaker, two mixed player teams from each side will face off against the other team's mixed player team, the first team to hit 8 points and secures the winning point on their serve. The first teams are replaced with the second teams line up to finish the game to sudden death to 15 (win by 1)To level up the stakes, the home team has to present its doubles teams line-up first then the away team gets the chance to counter that with their own configuration of their lineup to match and counter each player’s skills!

There are two age defined leagues in each region in each division (Men’s, Women’s, & Mixed).

    1.    Open Age League: All teams are not age restricted. Players must be 18 years or older by January 1st of the calendar year of the league start.
